What this means for you

  • Compare, don't auto-renew. Increases differ a lot by insurer. In South Carolina, for example, proposals range from about 11% to 45%.
  • Check your tax credit. Higher benchmark prices can mean a bigger credit, which may make Bronze or Gold plans cheaper than you expect.
  • Watch the 400% cliff. If your income is just above 400% of the poverty level, you'll pay full price. See 2027 income limits.

Frequently asked questions

How much are ACA premiums going up in 2027?

KFF's analysis of 276 insurers found a median proposed 2027 increase of about 15% before subsidies. State averages range from under 7% in Iowa to about 29% in Arizona.

Will my premium go up if I get a tax credit?

Maybe not by as much. Tax credits are tied to the benchmark Silver plan, so if benchmark prices rise, credits usually rise too. Your net cost depends on the plan you pick and your income.

Why are 2027 ACA premiums rising?

Insurers point to rising medical and prescription drug costs, plus expected changes in who enrolls now that the enhanced subsidies have expired.
