What's new in Texas for 2027

Texas has about 14 Marketplace insurers for 2027. Cigna and Baylor Scott & White Health Plan are leaving, so their members must pick a new plan. Texas also requires insurers to price Silver plans higher, which can make Bronze and Gold plans a better deal for people with tax credits.

Leaving the Texas Marketplace for 2027: Cigna, Baylor Scott & White Health Plan. If you have one of these plans, pick a new plan by December 15 to avoid a gap in coverage starting January 1.

Across the country, the median proposed 2027 premium increase is about 15% (Peterson-KFF Health System Tracker). The extra federal subsidies that capped premiums at 8.5% of income expired at the end of 2025, and the 400% of poverty "subsidy cliff" is back for 2027 (Congressional Research Service). That makes reviewing your plan and your income estimate more important than usual. See our 2027 subsidy income limits guide.
